Welcome to October

Hello, October. The warm of summer is officially over and the smell of autumn has arrived. Here are a few things to look forward to during the tenth month of the year:

1. Orange
This is a color to love year-round, but it has a special place during the month of October. Find ways to incorporate the bright hue into your life. Orange is the new red (at least until Christmas rolls around).

No one does orange better than Hermes.

2. Pumpkins
Pumpkin bread. Pumpkin muffins. Pumpkin pie. Love. It. All. My advice: get to Starbucks now and order the pumpkin spice latte.

3. Where the Wild Things Are
If you were ever a child, you know all about Max and his adventures to the jungle. This month the book you read a million times over again is coming to theaters. With directing by Spike Jonze and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on the soundtrack, this film is sure to be a box-office success. Get in touch with your six-year-old-self again when this film hits theaters on October 16.

4. Think Pink
Autumn is all about new colors, and this month the focus is on pink. You probably already know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but what you might not know is that you can shop for the cause. Everyone from Sony to Clinique is showing their support by donating a portion of the proceeds made this month to breast cancer research. Or you can support the cause by heading to beauty.com and stocking up on all your favorite products.

5. The chill-factor
The cold-front has arrived and it's here to stay. I am all about chunky knits this autumn - sweaters, scarves and the like. So pull out the winter clothing from storage, you're going to need it.

6. Costumes
Who doesn't love a costume party? October is the only month of the year that has a whole day dedicated to wearing costumes - which brings me to the final item on my list...

7. Halloween
I always like to save the best for last - and so does October. The 31st day of this month is a 24-hour fun-fest full of candy-corn, costumes and jack-o-lanterns. Trick-or-treat, indeed.
