Accessorizing with Aishti

I'm soooo in love with these Burberry tough'n'pretty lace-up platform sandals which I spotted in Aishti the other day. I can see myself wearing them with tapered pants/leggings and a luxe sweater for an edgily chic off duty look. Or with a soft and feminine dress and knitted tights. I like! Now these looks need a new accessory.. hmm.. (my old trick for justifying my purchases!)

Just steps away from the Burberry babes is this stunning Nancy Gonzalez hobo bag in exotic white leather. LOVE IT! But knowing how easily I scruff my bags, is white really an option for me? Don't think so.

Copy Cat: Angel Jackson Sequin Satchel

The lovely Sophie Ellis-Bextor loves Angel Jackson bags. She was spotted wearing  black sequin Angel Jackson satchel with  studded snakeskin trim (all the sequins are done by hand ). Apparently, she pretty much wears Angel Jackson for every event. The bag is available on Angel Jackson's website now.

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like...

Designers are getting into the spirit - the spirit of fashion, that is. Christmas may well be on its way but December also means that it's a mere 8 weeks until Fashion Week, and as such designers are beginning to show their Pre-Fall 2010 collections. Here are some of my favorites:

J. Mendel
Known for his dreamy gowns and chic cocktail frocks, Gilles Mendel knows what a girl wants. This collection reminded of me of, well, right now. The splashes of gold and bursts of red are exactly what I would want to be wearing to the upcoming holiday festivities. Note: Observe the spotted tights. Looks like this trend is here to stay.

Chanel
Karl Lagerfeld is constantly telling us a story with his designs, and this particular story was about China. Shanghai provided the backdrop and inspiration for Lagerfeld's Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 show (and what a show it was). Taking cues from the Terracotta Army and Chinese Cinema, the collection featured knee-length dresses with jewel encrusted panels, chiffon gowns, and plenty of leather leggings. The accessories were focused on the heritage of the Chinese with oversized bracelets, necklaces with tassels and cone hats.

Oscar de la Renta
Oh, Oscar. I do love you so. For his Pre-Fall collection, the Italian couturier said he was tired of the gloom and doom of the tumbling economy (aren't we all?) and was in the mood for something optimistic and cheerful. The upbeat collection that it was featured pops of color, an array of textures and plenty of embellished embroidery. The color palette was all over the place ranging from aquamarine to ruby red to pink. And it didn't stop there. The accessories were just as bold with oversized necklaces and printed scarves. Finally, Oscar can't end a show without a lineup of his hallmark red carpet-worthy gowns. The black - even after all of that color -was certainly my favorite (I have a feeling we'll be seeing this one on one of our favorite celebrities come March).

Diane von Furstenberg
I've gotten a taste of what this lady is going to show us for Fall, and I like it. DVF gave us a youthful and fresh collection with pieces that will take us all the way from a chic cocktail party to the stands of a Kings of Leon concert. The clothes appeared comfortable and effortless yet still maintained a put-together look. Ms. von Furstenberg described her inspiration as a girl "who is breaking the rules yet playing the game at the same time." I'll play.

So, readers, who are your favorites for Pre-Fall 2010?

Jelly Feet

I've been eyeing Vivienne Westwood for Melissa shoes for quite some time now. And even though I haven't tried them on yet, the thought of wearing rubber shoes that make my feet sweat is not something I long for. However, one of my friends swears by them (and their smell! Weird I know!) and now that it's easier than ever to get them here in Kuwait through local online boutique FrockBoudoir, I'm so tempted to buy them.

Log on to FrockBoudoir.com and check out the latest footwear from Vivienne Westwood for Melissa.

Style resolutions 2010

I loved UK Vogue this months. A few good articles and plenty of beautiful images kept me busy reading and enjoying the issue.

20 New Year Shopping Resolutions was one of the reads that got my attention and I really want to share it with you, not only because some may find it useful, but also because I'd love to know your opinion about it. I am not going to post all 20 "new year rules", but will pick my favourites instead. If you want to know/read the rest, please let me know. All the pictures I use here are my own selection, not the ones used by Vogue. And yes, I am going to add little notes here and there because I am in a talkative mood today. Enjoy!

♥ SHOP FOR NUDE.
Update almost any colour for s/s 2010 (from dayglo lime to sky blue) by colour-blocking with this blushed neutral.

Nicole Farhi. Louise Goldin. Adam. Spring/Summer 2010

♥ STOCK UP ON SILKS AND MASTER THE ART OF TYING A HEADSCARF a la Marni.
It's an ideal way to add punch to grey winter knits (... or add a warm touch on a cold winter day, or just beautify yourself on a "bad hair day", FashionTitbits), and you will be a pro by the time you head to the beach come summer.

Marni. Spring/Summer 2010

This reminded me of Gloria Trillo from The Sopranos series (LOVE The Sopranos, by the way and funnily enough, we always watch the whole lot over Christmas) and how she wore a scarf and a hat on top of it. It looked so chic! Here's a picture from that episode, without a hat.

♥ WHITE SKIRT

Whether you play or not, get a white tennis skirt and you are half way to acquiring an Hermès s/s 2010 wardrobe; wear with a white-tipped long black cardigan.

Hermès. Spring/Summer 2010.

♥ SPEND ON JEWELLERY
It makes an old dress or t-shirt look new. Chunky bangles are a good place to start.

Bottega Veneta. Marni. Lanvin. Spring/Summer 2010

♥ BUY SHOES YOU CAN WALK IN
Note from FashionTitbits: I can say that there aren't that many style I can't walk in... and not, I am not trying to show off. But I thought it's a such a good reminder to many girls out there who'd rather kill themselves than buy better shoes or wear something they feel comfortable in. I truly believe that a woman in uncomfortable shoes never look sexy. Woman in heels - yes, woman in uncomfortable heels - no.
If heels aren't your thing yet, you can start your "training routine" by wearing wedges. My favourite and oh-so-comfortable ones are by Castañer. Or stick with classic and beautiful ballerinas and jewelled flat sandals.

Bottega Veneta. Chloe. Calvin Klein. Spring/Summer 2010.

♥ LEARN MORE HIGH IMPACT - LOW EFFORT TRICKS
Here is an example: buy a cropped tux jacket and wear it everywhere. Team it with your most shredded jeans and, somehow, you will still look smarter that everyone else.
Note to myself: I MUST find my perfect blazer in 2010. I really really really need one.

♥ PROMISE TO LOOK AFTER A WHITE SHIRT THIS SEASON
See it as your new best friend. Start over with a new one, vow to always wash it in a biological washing powder, add glo-white and spray lightly with starch before ironing. Or get it dry-cleaned.
